Professor Robert Yao – Classic Formulas for Female Infertility & Blood Stasis
Brief overview of lecture:
TCM gynecology defines female infertility as resulting from a woman of reproductive age who has 1) not conceived after over 2 years of unprotected sex or 2) women who had previous pregnancy but are unable to conceive again after over 2 years of unprotected sex life.
From the TCM point of view, the causes of female infertility mainly cover Yang deficiency of kidney, Ying deficiency of kidney, Liver Depression, Phlegm and Dampness, and Blood Stasis.
From the Western Medicine point of view, the causes of female infertility involve ovulation disorders (including PCOS), fallopian tube damage, endometriosis, uterine or cervical disorders and unexplained infertility.
For all these mentioned conditions, Wen Jing Tang, Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan, Si Ni San, Dang Gui Shao Yao San, Shao Yao Gan Cao Tang, Dan Gui Si Ni Tang, Zhen Wu Tang, Shen Qi Wan etc. and their modifications have been widely used clinically.
This lecture will introduce how to precisely use the above formulas through distinguishing different body patterns and formula indications and how to modify these formulas clinically. The latest research in this field, such as the role of autoimmune pathogenesis in female infertility, will be discussed. Other than these, Dr. Yao will more specifically discuss PCOS and endometriosis caused infertility with us.
